From Irbid Governorate… The Lawyers Network Continues to Promote Digital Awareness

As part of the "Towards a Safe Digital Space for Women" campaign, an awareness lecture at the Jordanian Women's Union focused on digital safety and cybercrime laws.

As part of the Lawyers Network’s ongoing efforts to combat digital violence against women, and within its awareness campaign “Towards a Safe Digital Space for Women,” Waee Center for Human Rights Training organized an awareness-raising lecture on digital rights for women from the local community at the Jordanian Women’s Union in Irbid Governorate. The lecture was delivered by lawyer Sura Yamin, a member of the Lawyers Network.

Ms. Yamin addressed key concepts of digital safety, the risks and forms of digital violence, the safe and responsible use of technology, and protection and reporting mechanisms available to women experiencing digital violence. She also provided an overview of key provisions of Jordan’s Cybercrime Law and relevant penalties.

The lecture was well attended and generated strong engagement among participants, with a rich discussion on the challenges women face in the digital environment and ways to strengthen their protection.

Lawyer Taghreed Al Dughmi, founder of the Lawyers Network, emphasized that these lectures represent an important step in leveraging the expertise of women lawyers to serve the community, strengthen women’s digital and legal awareness, contribute to building a safer digital space, and empower women to protect their rights.

For her part, Ms. Kholoud Shokhawha, Director of the Danish Institute for Human Rights in Jordan, praised the Lawyers Network’s experience, describing it as a distinctive model that invests in the capacities of women lawyers to develop specialized expertise in digital violence issues and effectively transfer knowledge to women and the local community.

The initiative comes in response to the recommendations of the fourth cycle of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) of Jordan, particularly those concerning combating violence against women, raising community awareness, building the capacities of women lawyers, and ensuring women’s access to justice.
