As Part of the “Towards a Safe Digital Space for Women” Campaign, Lecture at Naya Foundation in Zarqa on Digital Safety and the Cybercrime Law

As part of the Lawyers Network’s ongoing efforts to combat digital violence against women, and within its awareness campaign “Towards a Safe Digital Space for Women,” lawyer Taghreed Breizat, a member of the Network, delivered an awareness-raising lecture for women from the local community in Zarqa Governorate at Naya Foundation for Training and Community Development.

Ms. Breizat addressed key concepts of digital safety, the risks of digital violence, the safe and responsible use of technology, and protection and reporting mechanisms available to women experiencing digital violence. She also provided an overview of key provisions of Jordan’s Cybercrime Law and relevant penalties.

The lecture was well attended and generated strong engagement among participants, with a rich discussion on the challenges women face in the digital environment and ways to strengthen their protection.

Community Partnership and a Distinctive Model

Lawyer Taghreed Al Dughmi, founder of the Lawyers Network, emphasized that these lectures represent an important step in leveraging the expertise of women lawyers to serve the community, strengthen women’s digital and legal awareness, contribute to building a safer digital space, and empower women to protect their rights.

For her part, Ms. Kholoud Shokhawha, Director of the Danish Institute for Human Rights in Jordan, praised the Lawyers Network’s experience, describing it as a distinctive model that invests in the capacities of women lawyers to develop specialized expertise in digital violence issues and transfer knowledge to women and the local community.

Responding to International Recommendations

The initiative comes in response to the recommendations of the fourth cycle of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) of Jordan, particularly those concerning combating violence against women, raising community awareness, building the capacities of women lawyers, and ensuring women’s access to justice.
