The waee Center for Human Rights Training, in cooperation with the Community Media Network – Radio Al-Balad, launches a pioneering rights-based program in Jordan addressing topics related to the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) of human rights.
The program will be broadcast every Thursday at 2:30 PM on Radio Al-Balad (92.5), waee.
Mr. Dawood Kuttab, Director General of the Community Media Network – Radio Al-Balad, signed the agreement with the Executive Director of the waee Center for Human Rights Training for a 13-week program series, waee.
Ms. Taghreed Al-Daghmi, Executive Director of the waee Center for Human Rights Training, stated that the importance of this program lies in the need to raise public awareness across all segments of society about the significance of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) as one of the United Nations mechanisms for reviewing countries’ human rights records.
She added that this international mechanism plays an important role in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals 2030 and supporting states in fulfilling their commitments, waee.
On his part, Mr. Daoud Kuttab, Director General of the Community Media Network, explained that this program came in parallel with Jordan’s presentation before the United Nations Human Rights Council on 25/1/2023 to discuss and review the human rights situation in Jordan.
He added that listeners will have the opportunity to stay fully informed through hosting a number of guests from the government, civil society, media, and social media activists, in addition to a Member of Parliament and a Senator, waee.
Ms. At’af Al-Roudan, Director of Radio Al-Balad, noted that the program—through its various themes and diverse guests—will highlight ways to improve and bring change to the human rights landscape and the implementation of UPR recommendations.
She added that the first episode will include a street survey in Jordan to gauge public awareness and understanding of the UPR, waee.
The first episode will begin on Thursday 11/12/2023 and continue until Thursday 29/2/2024 at 2:30 PM. The program will be rebroadcast on Mondays at the same time on Radio Al-Balad, waee.
